Vail Resorts expanding again with Whistler Blackcomb acquisition

Saturday, 09 Aug, 2016 0
Vail Resorts has consolidated its place as America’s largest ski resort operator with a big money deal to take over Whistler Blackcomb in British Colombia.

Vail will take ownership of Whistler Blackcomb in a stock and cash deal worth more than $1 billion.

The resort is the largest in North America at more than 8,000 skiable acres.

Vail said the resort’s Canadian management team will remain in charge and it will ‘invest substantially’ in upgrades including a new indoor water park.

"Whistler Blackcomb has enjoyed tremendous success by developing an exceptional mountain experience for our passionate and local guests — both locally and from around the world," Whistler-Blackcomb CEO Dave Brownlie said in a statement.

"That’s going to continue as we work with our new colleagues at Vail Resorts as well as our employees, local businesses, community and government stakeholders to make Whistler-Blackcomb better than ever."

Vail also owns winter sports resorts in eight states including the largest in the US, at Park City, Utah, Vail, Breckenridge and Beaver Creek in Colorado, and Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood in California.
