Valencia gears up to host Gay Games 2026
Valencia, Spain is preparing to take center stage this summer as it hosts the Gay Games 2026, one of the world’s largest inclusive sporting and cultural events. Scheduled from June 27 through July 4, 2026, the event is already generating strong international interest, with thousands of participants expected to attend.
The unique event is bringing together thousands of people every four years under the same spirit: inclusion, respect, diversity, and celebration.
Giuseppe Giulio, Project Manager at JN Global Project, the agency responsible for international promotion of the Games, gave some details during ITB Berlin. He highlighted that preparations are well underway for what promises to be a landmark event for both the destination and the global LGBTQ+ community.
“Registration is already open, and we have around 7,000 people confirmed from all over the world,” Giulio said. “We expect between 10,000 and 12,000 participants overall, making this a truly major international gathering.”

The Gay Games Valencia 2026 will attract athletes, supporters, and spectators from more than 30 countries, with strong representation anticipated from the United States, Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia. Beyond competition, the event is designed to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and cultural exchange.
Local and regional backing has been a key factor in bringing the Games to life. Organizers are working closely with the city of Valencia, Visit Valencia, and the Comunidad Valenciana (metropolitan authorities), alongside global LGBTQ+ sports and travel networks. This collaboration is helping position Valencia as a leading inclusive travel destination in Europe.
While specific budget figures have not been disclosed, Giulio confirmed that significant infrastructure and planning efforts are in place. One of the major highlights will be the opening ceremony, which will take place in a stadium being inaugurated for the occasion. The event will mark a symbolic and historic moment for the city.
“This will be a massive global event,” Giulio added. “And it’s especially meaningful for Spain, as it coincides with a broader calendar of LGBTQ+ gatherings around the country, including the IGLTA convention in Seville.”
A full program of sporting competitions and cultural events is expected to be released by April, along with detailed visitor information, schedules, and digital content. Organizers are also showcasing the event at major international travel trade shows to build further momentum.
With its blend of sport, celebration, and inclusivity, the Gay Games Valencia 2026 is poised to deliver a significant boost to tourism while reinforcing Spain’s reputation as a LGBTQ+ friendly destination as well as a welcoming country for all travelers.
