Vanuatu Tourism officials confident
Vanuatu’s tourism officials are confident the country’s reputation as a tourist destination has not been damaged, despite clashes that left three dead in the capital Port Vila last weekend.
Rober Avio, the Director of the National Tourism Development Office, said that says the violence was an isolated incident, and there have been no cancellations from Vanuatu’s major tourist markets.
Mr Avio also said the latest cruise ship docked in Vila this week and business is normal, adding, tourism representatives had a meeting earlier this week to ascertain what are the immediate implications on the industry, adding, “It seems, given the very minimum level of travel advice issued by respective High Commissions in Port Vila, the impact on the industry is negligible and quite minimal.”
“Most of our major source markets like Australia and New Zealand haven’t recorded any cancellations of bookings.”
