VietJet expected to finalise multi-billion dollar Boeing order
Vietnam budget carrier VietJet is likely to confirm a major airplane deal for Boeing jets as the Trump-Kim summit gets underway in Hanoi.
The airline is expected to finalise a deal for 100 Boeing 737 MAX jets worth almost $13 billion, which was first announced at the Farnborough Air Show, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.
The fast growing airline also announced a similar sized order when former President Obama visited back in 2016.
Likewise, VietJet did the same with a large Airbus order when French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe visited last year.
President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un hold their second summit in the Vietnamese capital from February 27.
Following a green light from the US Federal Aviation Administration for Vietnam airlines to fly to the US, VietJet has expressed interest in nonstop transpacific routes to the West Coast.
It recently said it plans to order wide body jets capable of operating the long haul route but has not disclosed a timeline on when or if that happens.
It currently operates nearly 400 flights a day within Vietnam and on short haul Asia routes.
