VietJet inks new Boeing deal for 100 jets
Fast-growing budget carrier VietJet is spending big again to fuel expansion.
It has struck a deal with Boeing to provisionally buy 100 Boeing 737 MAX jets worth an estimated $13 billion at list prices.
The deal was unveiled at the UK’s Farnborough Air Show.
The order is split between 80 of the larger, all-new 737 MAX 10 and 20 of the 737 MAX 8 jets.
"The growth is incredibly strong in South East Asia. VietJet is a major player there," said Boeing CEO Kevin McAllister.
Vietjet ordered 100 737 MAX jets two years ago, its first with the US plane maker after previously flying only Airbus planes.
The airline will take delivery of the planes from 2022 and will become the largest MAX 10 customer in Asia.
