Vietnam Airlines agrees to codeshare with ANA

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has teamed up for a codeshare partnership with Japan’s ANA Holdings.

It will initially cover codesharing on 10 international routes between the two countries and 25 domestic routes.

It takes effect from October 30, 2016.

It follows ANA’s strategic investment of 8.8% in Vietnam Airlines in June this year.

The airlines will integrate one-stop check-in, lounge access and baggage services at select airports included in the codeshare agreement and VNA crew will also work on ANA aircraft making in-flight announcements in Vietnamese.

"Through strategic long-term development cooperation and experiences from ANA, Vietnam Airlines’ goal of becoming a five-star airline will become more reachable," said Duong Tri Thanh, president and CEO of VNA

A reciprocal frequent flyer agreement in place allows members of ANA Mileage Club and Vietnam Airline’s Lotusmiles to earn points on codeshare flights.

"There is strong and growing demand for air services between Japan and Vietnam, and this trend is set to continue. Together, ANA and Vietnam Airlines can play a vital role as a bridge between the two countries, promoting greater economic, cultural and personal ties," said Shinya Katanozaka, president and CEO of ANA
