Vietnam startup Bamboo Airways eyeing US flights
Growing Vietnamese airline startup Bamboo Airways is ready to spread its wings long haul.
It has serious ambitions to enter the US market and wants to start flying to the US on a leased Airbus A380.
Bamboo has applied to US aviation authorities to launch flights which could begin early next year.
"We will start in the first quarter of 2020 if we get permission by the end of this year," Trinh Van Quyet, chairman of parent company FLC told the Financial Times.
The airline, which only began operations this January, launched its first overseas route a week ago linking Da Nang with Taiwan.
Vietnamese carriers are now able to apply for Vietnam-US routes after the US Federal Aviation Administration granted the country a ‘category 1’ aviation rating.
Flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has also expressed interest in flights to the US west coast.
