Vietnam to resume flights to China
Vietnam has agreed to restart scheduled flights to and from China.
Vietnam’s ministry of transport said agreement has been reached but a restart timeline and frequency is still under discussion.
However local media reports early August has been mooted.
The ministry says it may start with one flight a week to and from select destinations in China as well as possibly Japan, South Korea, Laos and Cambodia.
It will be a boost for inbound tourism which has been decimated despite Vietnam recording no Covid-19 deaths.
There has been no community transmission of the virus for nearly three months.
China is Vietnam’s largest trading partner and China makes up about a third of all foreign tourist arrivals.
Vietnam suspended visas and all commercial flights from China back in February.
Government officials haven’t said if the 14-day quarantine requirement for all overseas arrivals will be lifted.
Domestic tourism across Vietnam has resumed.
