Violent eruption blows peak from volcano
Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra exploded yesterday, sending an ash cloud three miles into the air.
Indonesia’s Centre for Volcanology said the summit had been ‘completely annihilated’.
No-one was injured in the explosion, but ash from the crater travelled as far as Lhokseumawe, a city more than 162 miles northwest of the mountain.
Mount Sinabung, one of more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia, has been active since 2010.
