Virgin Blue responds
Virgin Blue has today responded to the findings of the Queensland Anti DiscriminationTribunal, saying that they are surprised at the judgement brought down and are now examining the judgement in detail.
Heather Jeffrey, Virgin Blue’s general manager of public affairs said Virgin was likely to appeal. “The matter is far from closed,” she said. “This finding ? shows that Virgin Blue’s recruitment processes are sound and they are lawful. We reject outright that our company discriminates on the basis of age. That is not the Virgin Blue way.”
Queensland’s anti-discrimination commissioner, Susan Booth, said the ruling was a “wake-up call” to all employers not to discriminate against potential employees on the basis of age.
