Virgin offers Kids Packs and tips for traveling with children

Virgin Atlantic is reaching out to help parents keep their kids entertained.

Every child under 12 now gets a Kids Pack of "useful and fun items for the journey ahead" wrapped up in a plastic carry bag they can use at the beach.

Inside is a child-sized eye mask, warm socks, a rainbow pen and a Lonely Planet Travel Journal.

In December the Pack will also include a Where’s Wally? book.

Perhaps more important, the airline has offered tips for traveling by air with kids. Follow them and your fellow passengers will be as grateful as the children. And the crew.

They are:

  • Order childrens’ meals online 48 hours in advance.
  • Load children’s favorite shows on an iPad or DVD player and bring it along.
  • Bring pre-made cartons of formula for infants rather than trying to mix powder onboard.
  • Carry on enough diapers, jars of baby food, plastic spoons and straws to last through any emergency or flight delay.
  • Bring one new toy for every hour of flight.
  • Try to let the kids walk up and down the aisles in the period between, but not during, meal and drinks services.
  • Bear in mind that the toilets are always very busy at the end of the flight and are locked for landing, so make sure to do your toilet trips with plenty of time to spare!
