Virgin partnership gives Delta a transatlantic boost
Delta Air Lines says its partnership with Virgin Atlantic will help it significantly grow its presence at London’s Heathrow Airport.
By the end of this year, the two airlines expect to jointly offer 21 daily flights from London to the US.
From March 31, Delta will launch a third daily service between Heathrow and Atlanta for a total of nine daily nonstop flights to five New York-JFK, Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis-St Paul and Boston.
In addition, Delta has been making a number of significant investments in products and services for transatlantic customers.
These include fully flat-bed seats and Wi-Fi on all services and a new $1.4billion Terminal 4 at JFK due to open in May this year.
Speaking in London this week, Delta president Ed Bastian, said: "London Heathrow is the most important access point for corporate travellers and that was the driving force behind our decision to invest in Virgin Atlantic.
"Given the constraints on growth at Heathrow, our partnership with Virgin will enable us to expand our presence at this airport and level the field a little with our competitors, while offering customers even more in terms of choice and benefits."
