Virgin pilot bars passenger

A Virgin Atlantic captain has been reported to the US Federal Administration Administration for barring a passenger who made sarcastic comments about the pilot’s late arrival for a flight.

According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, the banned passenger was one of 300 booked on a Virgin flight from Miami to London, which was delayed by 13 hours because of illness among the crew. All the passengers were put up overnight and told to return to the airport the following morning. But when the pilot, Captain Simon Crook, arrived, the passenger in question reportedly said “well done” to him.

According to the Telegraph, the captain then turned and pointed to the passenger, who was later told by ground staff that he would not be allowed to board the flight. The passenger had reportedly paid GBP3,500 for a business class return ticket, but even so, he was not allowed to board the flight and his wife had to fly back to London alone. The Telegraph reports that the passenger in question has written to the US Federal Aviation Administration, while three others have written to the carrier to complain.

A spokesman for Virgin said: “The captain felt the passenger’s behaviour suggested that he could be disruptive during the flight. He felt it was more sensible to carry him on a later flight to let him calm down.”
