Virgin steps up campaign against air tax
Virgin Atlantic plans to drop the British government a postcard – thousands of them, in fact.
Until June 17, the UK Treasury is consulting on a reform of Air Passenger Duty (APD), a tax which heavily penalises long haul travellers.
For a week from June 3, all Virgin Atlantic passengers will receive a postcard before their flight which explains the tax and asks for their views on how it could be changed.
The results of the survey will then form part of Virgin Atlantic’s response to the UK government’s consultation on APD.
Virgin Atlantic chief commercial officer Julie Southern said,
“We want our submission to this consultation to speak for the thousands of passengers who travel with us every day, so we are taking this opportunity to engage with them to find out what they think.
“This is a great chance for our customers to make their voices heard in a quick and simple way, rather than via the Treasury’s inaccessible 49-page online consultation document.â€
The postcard survey will take place with passengers departing Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester Airports between June 3-9.
