Vistara launching first international flights to Singapore

Indian full service airline Vistara will finally spread its wings overseas beginning in August.

Starting August 6 and 7 respectively the airline will fly to Singapore daily from Delhi and Mumbai.

Vistara is a joint venture between Indian conglomerate Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines.

It expects to expand to more destinations soon.

The international launch is a year later than it first planned.

"We’re excited to start with Singapore as our first international destination, which we see as a very important market, given the opportunities it presents for corporate, business as well as leisure travel," said Vistara CEO Leslie Thng.

It will fly Boeing 737-800s on the routes.

Introductory fares are being offered at just over INR20,000

International services will be key to long term stable profitability, the airline said.

It has ordered six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets which will be used for medium and long-haul international operations.

It will take delivery of them by 2021.

"Delhi and Mumbai are amongst the key visitorship contributors from India for leisure, business travel and cruise travellers to Singapore," said G B Srithar, Singapore Tourism Board’s regional director for India, Middle East & South Asia.
