Voyages Dunk & Bedarra Islands To Re-Open June 1
Following a full assessment of damage caused by Cyclone Larry, Voyages have settled on a June 1 re-opening date for Dunk and Bedarra islands.
According to Voyages CEO Grant Hunt, the two month rebuild and clean-up period allows for enough time to ensure both resorts are returned to premium condition before guests return.
“By being clear and decisive about re-opening in two months time on 1 June, we hope that any inconvenience to guests will be minimised,” Mr Hunt said.
“We feel a terrible disappointment for guests who have booked a holiday, only later to be told they need to cancel or relocate, and our aim is to avoid this at all costs.”
“We are hopeful that guests considering a holiday on Dunk or Bedarra, during the period of closure, will take advantage of an alternative Voyages island experience on Lizard, Heron/Wilson or Brampton Islands,” he said.
“We encourage them not to change their plans and have made it easy for guests to transfer from a Dunk holiday to either Heron or Brampton, and from Bedarra to Lizard.”
Voyages are encouraging guests to take advantage of the attractive offers available throughout their portfolio at present, or to rebook for later in the year when Dunk and Bedarra are “new” again. Cancellation policies will not be enforced during the period of closure should guests decide to take this course of action.
Voyages staff are contacting affected guests and offering alternative holiday packages, including:
VOYAGES HERON ISLAND & VOYAGES BRAMPTON ISLAND
Guests with Voyages Dunk Island bookings may choose Voyages Heron Island and Voyages Brampton Island at the same rates offered for a Dunk Island holiday. This will be confirmed at the time of booking and they will also receive complimentary return launch transfers from Gladstone or Mackay
Voyages Heron Island and Voyages Brampton Island bookings include all meals and an array of complimentary resort activities.
VOYAGES LIZARD ISLAND
Guests with Voyages Bedarra Island bookings may choose Voyages Lizard Island at the same rates confirmed at the time of booking. If guests have pre-booked a Hinterland flight from Cairns to Dunk Island, this will be accepted on the Cairns to Lizard Island service at no additional charge.
Voyages Lizard Island bookings include all meals and an array of complimentary resort activities.
$100 VOUCHER
Guests choosing to convert their existing booking to any other Voyages property will receive a $100 voucher per adult per booking.
Well before Tropical Cyclone Larry threatened the coast of Queensland, Voyages evacuated over 200 guests and 150 staff from Voyages Dunk and Bedarra Islands from early Sunday morning.
“Our experience in operating remote wilderness resorts helped us understand the nature and scope of the type of threat Tropical Cyclone Larry posed to our guests and staff, ensuring our Disaster Response Plans were rolled out quickly and efficiently,” said Mr Hunt.
