SAS Australia’s popular free downloadable stopover guide to Tokyo has been updated to give even more handy hints to get you out of the airport to turn your stopover into a new experience on your way to Europe.
The new ski options include the Hakuba Valley ski area which is 2-3 hours from Tokyo by train and offers several ski resorts including the Happo One Ski resort, one of the hosts of the Nagano Winter Olympics. Other options include Rusutsu, and the city of Furano in the North of Japan in Hokkaido which offers breathtaking scenery, lots of snow and night skiing.

New ideas for a stay of less than a day include the Narita Village historic cultural town which is only 30 minutes from Narita Airport as well as Tokyo Disneyland. Both options can be reached easily by bus from the airport.
Those who would like to spend a full day in Tokyo and get an introduction to traditional Japanese culture can go and see Sumo a match, a Japanese style of wrestling which is the National sport in Japan. Tickets to a sumo tour start at $ 100¹. Other insights into Japanese culture can be experienced by seeing a traditional Kabuki performance in a Kabuki theatre in Ginza.
