Watchdogs dismiss fresh complaints about Gatwick’s runway campaign
Advertising watchdogs have rejected complaints that the high-profile ‘London Gatwick Obviously’ campaign is misleading.
They ruled that the press campaign to promote the airport’s bid for an additional runway as an alternative to expanding Heathrow did not breach any guidelines.
Some 18 readers had challenged the campaign’s claims regarding cost, increased pollution, compensation to local residents and environmental damage.
However, the Advertising Standards Authority ruled the campaign was not misleading as the airport had backed up claims in its publicly stated commitments.
In an earlier ASA investigation, Gatwick was told off for the way it used statistics about noise pollution in its runway campaign.
