Wave APEC goodbye with a Wollongong Escape

Wollongong has placed the welcome mat out for workers and others who have had to endure Sydney in lock down mode for APEC this past week.

“APEC has come and gone leaving plenty of locals and workers pretty exhausted,” said Tourism Wollongong General Manager Greg Binskin.

“So what better time than now to roll down Sydney’s best escape route, Grand Pacific Drive, to enjoy a stress-free, seaside break in Wollongong.”

“There’s always heaps to do and see in Wollongong.” “Skydive onto the beach, paraglide off the escarpment, take a Harley Davidson ride along the coast, treat the family to Jamberoo Action Park, enjoy tai chi classes at Nan Tien Buddhist Temple, or just kick back in the relaxing surrounds of a luxury hotel.

Mr Binskin said Wollongong had become spoilt for dining choices, with fantastic beachside cafes and seafood restaurants, and Australia’s largest micro brewery – Five Islands Brewery, right on the beach.

“Easily explored on foot, Wollongong also features an extensive beachside cycleway, fabulous shopping facilities, a choice of 17 patrolled surf beaches, panoramic views across the city from Mt Keira Lookout and plenty of history to be relived in the tiny mining town of Mr Kembla.”

He said three Wollongong hotels had offered the following APEC Recovery Packages for Sydneysiders wanting to get their lives back together again:

** Available from September 10 until October 1 next, the Hotel Ibis Wollongong is offering rooms from $159 per night with breakfast for two, free undercover parking and a $20 petrol voucher thrown in. Call 4223 6000 to book.

** Available on weekdays from September 10 until October 1 next, Rydges Central City Wollongong is offering rooms from $179 per night with breakfast for two and free undercover parking. Call 4220 7800 to book.

** Available immediately until October 1 next, the Belmore All Suites Hotel has teamed up with Jamberoo Action Park to offer a great play and stay package of a two bedroom apartment with breakfast and four tickets to the park for one night from $299 or for two nights from $499. Call 4224 6500 to book.

“These are great deals, but they are for a limited number of rooms so book early,” Mr Binskin added.
