‘We couldn’t throw them back on the street’
The four-star Prince Rupert Hotel in Shrewsbury says it will continue to welcome homeless people throughout Christmas, seven months after first opening its doors for rough sleepers.
It began taking them in after the government told local authorities to house all rough sleepers in England to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 in March.
Manager Charlie Green told Sky News : "We decided that we couldn’t just throw them back on the street. We’ve built relationships and bonds. They trust us. We never considered putting them back on the street."
