Weather, staff shortages to blame for American Airlines weekend meltdown
American Airlines blamed the weather and chronic staffing shortages as it canceled more than 1,700 flights over Halloween weekend.
It is the latest major travel disruption at airports, just days after Southwest Airlines passengers suffered several days of chaos.
The airline said most disruption was at its main Dallas/Fort Worth hub, as well as in Charlotte, N.C.
AA says 1,800 flight attendants are returning to work from leave during November, and it is recruiting 600 new flight attendants by the end of the year.
