Welcome to the Maldives in the Timor Sea
JAKARTA – The Indonesian government is being urged to sell off some of its uninhabited islands to countries facing the threat of being flooded because of global warming.
Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Freddy Numberi has noted that a number of countries, including the low-lying Maldives, are purchasing land in India as shelters for its citizens should sea levels overwhelm the islands.
Indonesia currently has 17,480 small islands across the archipelago.
The Mole suggests they probably wouldn’t miss one or two.
