WELL Advisory for Hotels and Resorts launches
Hotels and resorts worldwide are being encouraged to register with the WELL Health-Safety Rating, a new safety rating focused on how buildings and spaces can help protect people’s health and well-being.
The WELL Health-Safety Rating for Facility Operations and Management is an initiative by International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) and is an evidence-based, third-party verified rating.
It has insights collected through the WELL Advisory for Hotels and Resorts which comprises major brands including Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Karisma Hotels & Resorts, and Loews Hotels.
It also includes co-chairs, Richard Carmona, 17th Surgeon General of the United States, and Stacey Rizza, M.D., Professor of Medicine-Infectious Disease and President of the Staff at Mayo Clinic Rochester.
"By earning the WELL Health-Safety Rating seal, properties signal to guests and employees that evidence-based protocols, grounded in science, have been adopted and verified with third-party document review," said Rachel Gutter, IWBI President.
It covers a five-step verification process including cleaning and sanitization procedures, emergency preparedness, health service resources and air and water quality management.
"The hospitality industry has taken great steps to establish guidelines in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, including the centralization of best practices across many disciplines," says Michael Dominguez, CEO of Association of Luxury Hotels International.
IWBI will issue verified properties with a WELL Health-Safety Rating seal and it is subject to annual verification.
The organization comprises many hospitality industry leaders as WELL Advisory Members, with representatives from brands including Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, Marcus Hotels & Resorts and Starwood Capital Group.
