WestJet: new software for agents, new routes
Fares from WestJet are now available to agents via Softvoyage technology.
The Canadian carrier also announced three new US cities to its network: Tampa, Florida; New York, New York, and Palm Springs, California.
Softvoyage SAX customers are now able to sell WestJet fares directly to consumers through SIREV, created and powered by Softvoyage.
Agents earn nine percent commissions, the same commissions paid to agents who book directly on www.westjet.com.
Dan Langevin, vice president of sales and marketing for Softvoyage, said the arrangement was a “win-win” situation for the airline and the travel agency community.
“WestJet reaches a broader audience and helps control its costs while agents are able to offer a highly popular product to Canadian travelers while still earning maximum commission,” he said.
In addition to its three new routes to US cities starting later this year and in early 2005, WestJet will also begin non-stop service between Toronto and Orlando, and Toronto and Fort Lauderdale, in October. Non-stop service between Vancouver and Los Angeles will begin in December.
The air carrier also announced other new routes, some of which will be as low $49, one way.
Founded in 1996 with three aircraft and 220 employees, WestJet is known as the most successful carrier in Canadian history.
