WestJet offering free Covid insurance cover

Monday, 15 Sep, 2020 0

Canada’s WestJet is the latest airline to offer Covid-19 travel insurance coverage to attract more customers.

WestJet will offer it free for international bookings to Mexico, the Caribbean, and some European destinations including the UK.

"We know Canadians are seeking reassurance and our guests can now have confidence knowing they are protected against unforeseen medical costs related to the pandemic," said Arved von zur Muehlen, WestJet Chief Commercial Officer.

The airline has partnered with TuGo to offer free cover for WestJet air-only reservations and WestJet Vacations bookings.

Available from 18 September, cover will be automatically applied at the time of purchase for travel until 31 August, 2021 for up to 21 days for round trip bookings and for up to seven days for one-way bookings.

The insurance covers emergency medical and hospital costs up to C$100,000, quarantine costs and repatriation.

It covers travel for foreign nationals except Americans, but is not valid for domestic flights in Canada.

Patrick Robinson, TuGo’s CEO  said: "With our shared focus on the health, wellness and safety of travelers, it’s a natural fit for our two Canadian-owned companies to come together."
