What’s happening in Cleveland in 2024

Sunday, 07 Dec, 2023 0

There is an exciting lineup of top attractions and events set to light up Cleveland, Ohio in 2024.

A total solar eclipse, the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and the reopening of the modernised Cleveland Museum of Natural History are just some of the 2024 highlights.

Also, Cleveland hosts the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony next year.

On 8 April at 3.13pm, Cleveland will be in the path of totality for the solar eclipse.

For nearly four minutes, the moon will completely block out the sun, one of the longest durations of any major US city.

With unobstructed views of the eclipse from Lake Erie or the many greenspaces in the city plus special science programming from NASA’s Glenn Research Centre and the Great Lakes Science Centre, Cleveland is the place to be for sky gazers.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park was the ninth most visited U.S. National Park in 2022, with over 2.9 million visitors.

The mighty Cuyahoga River winds through forests, valley landscapes and historic farms.

Celebrations for the park’s 50th anniversary in 2024 are being planned, with staff delving into the fascinating stories of the valley’s past.

Visitors can explore the park while hiking, biking, birding, or taking a ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

The $150-million redevelopment of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, with new public spaces is scheduled for completion in late 2024.

The redesigned exhibits place visitors at the centre of the museum experience and scientific discovery.

Located on the shore of Lake Erie, the world-famous Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will host the annual induction ceremony in autumn 2024, bringing music’s biggest stars to Cleveland.

Inductees in 2023 included George Michael, Kate Bush, Sheryl Cole and Chaka Khan.

A new downtown hotel will open in 2024. The 97-room, boutique hotel will be named Fidelity Hotel in a nod to the building’s original name and will include a speakeasy-style bar.

In July, Cleveland will host the 2024 Pan-American Masters Games (PAMG), welcoming more than 7,500 athletes from more than 50 countries.

Held every four years, PAMG is an Olympic-like sports festival for athletes over 30 years old. It features nearly 20 medal-contending sports including track and field, tennis, basketball, pickleball and cycling.
