What’s more stressful than airport security?
Airport security is a hassle, but it’s nothing compared to the worry over staying healthy on the road, a new survey says.
When TripIt, a travel organizer app from Concur, asked road warriors what they found most stressful about travel, two thirds named exercising and eating healthy. Next came the ubiquitous "to do" list waiting at home. Airport security was fourth, followed by driving in an unfamiliar city.
Most frequent travelers did not find checking in at the airport, the flight itself, picking up a rental car, or communicating with partners and/or kids to be stressful.
To combat stress, TripIt suggests travelers carry their own healthy snacks, like whole almonds or a banana, walk or take the stairs whenever possible, and take advantage of hotels that loan guests workout gear, yoga mats, or shoes so they can exercise in their rooms.
The focus on fitness should come as no surprise to hotels, which have been rolling out programs to keep their best guests healthy. Hyatt, for example, in February began rolling out a healthier menu following an extensive 18-month study of female travelers. The new menu includes fresh juices, balanced portions, and more "create your own" food options.
Meanwhile, TripIt made news of its own yesterday when it was named fourth on a list of "20 Most Popular Cloud-Based Apps" by Fortune magazine. The app tracks and organizes emails from travel suppliers and keeps all the paperwork in one place. It is offered by Concur, a supplier of corporate travel and expense tracking software.
