Tuesday, 24 Jun, 2023 0

For an iconic 4th of July celebration, Memphis TN is the perfect party town.

Of course, the home of Blues, Soul & Rock ‘n’ Roll knows exactly how to party hard.

Travelers visiting Memphis have a myriad of events, activities, and delicious food to try during Independence Weekend. Here are a few top picks:

Rooftop parties at The Peabody Hotel

The historic hotel The Peabody hosts parties on the rooftop on Thursdays, so start your party whenever you arrive in Memphis. Join locals and tourists alike to watch the sun set over the Mississippi River to the sound of epic tunes.

Picnic in the park

Enjoy July’s good weather and have easy access to all of the fun with a picnic n one of the parks around the city. Grab a blanket and a picnic basket filled with goodies to Fourth Bluff Park or the Olive Branch Independence Day Celebrations. If you’re looking for something to keep the kids entertained, head over to “Chimes Square” for the Overton Square Independence Celebration which features vintage fire trucks, face painting, balloon art, food vendors, music, and more. Tom Lee Park is another great option. Officially opening on the Labor Day weekend, the river front park boasts a unique lookout and observation deck named The Flyway over the Mississippi River.

Firework shows

People all across Memphis will converge around the areas with the best vantage points to see the 4th of July fireworks, including along the city’s riverbanks and in Liberty Park. The fireworks are launched from various locations and synchronised to music.

Visit the iconic Graceland

There is no better way to experience an All-American Weekend  than at the former home of the King of Rock’n’Roll, Elvis’ Graceland. Graceland will be throwing a massive party with a special Elvis tribute show, a gospel brunch, a Viva Las Vegas sing-along, and fireworks coordinated to Elvis’ music.

BBQ and craft beers

You can’t visit Memphis without trying one of over 100 smokin’ barbecue joints around the city. Some of the best finger-licking spots include Dr Martin Luther King’s favourite spot, The Four WayLunchbox Eats where you order by taking a ‘quiz’ where your server give you a grade before serving the food in American-style school trays; or vegan gems such as Imagine Vegan Café.
