When is a guaranteed departure not a guaranteed departure?

Friday, 24 April 20093 min read

Concerning Albatross Travel Group’s “guaranteed departures”.

The Managing Director of the Albatross Travel Group berates Trafalgar/Globus for cancelling schedule departure tours.

He claims that Albatross offers “guaranteed departures”..and will operate at a loss in order to “maintain integrity with agents and their customers”.

This appears to be nothing more than gimmick marketing.

They say that “months ago” they cancelled tours for July. So what happens to a prospective client that picks up an Albatross brochure that claims to have “guaranteed departures” – only to find out that their selected tour in July has been cancelled..???

Doesn’t sound like a guaranteed departure…!

All tour companies should be banned from advertising “guaranteed departures” unless they are only allowed to cancel a tour (say) 4 weeks prior to scheduled departure and only if no one is booked on the tour.

It’s too easy to cancel (non-booked) tours many months prior, or intimidate booked passengers to join other tours so that a particular “guaranteed departure” date can be cancelled.

So..at what point is a guaranteed departure NOT a guaranteed departure??? Perhaps the industry needs some self-regulation??
