Where else but Townsville!
While the The Townsville Bulletin says that Tourism Queensland has snubbed Townsville, by leaving the city out of the State’s new million dollar marketing campaign ‘Where Else But Queensland’, representatives of the city’s tourism industry were hard at work at AIME in Melbourne.
The new TQ campaign, which can be seen at www.whereelse.com.au includes, the Gold Coast, Whitsundays, Cairns and Port Douglas, but Townsville’s attractions, including Magnetic Island, The Strand and other local attractions are not included, with the site having enjoyed 55,000 hits in three days.
Queensland Tourism Minister Margaret Keech said that the new Where Else But Queensland campaign promoted ‘the broad range of wonderful experiences available in Queensland, not specific destinations, with regional branding doing that.
She said Townsville and the North Queensland region was filmed for the campaign. including Wallaman Falls, 158km northwest of Townsville and nearby Garrawalt Falls, along with shots of the coastline estuaries and sugar cane, adding it was always difficult job to decide which images should be included in the ads.
Townsville Enterprise CEO Glenys Schuntner isn’t upset by Townsville not featuring in the ads, saying the ads showcased the whole Queensland experience, adding that anyone watching the ad in Sydney or Melbourne will see the Great Barrier Reef, the islands and they are all things that you can do in Townsville and that’s he would like to see a fair representation of all the regions across the State.
Meanwhile, Ruth Prideaux of the Mercure Townsville, Dawn Combs of Townsville Enterprise and Lynn Mazza of Mazmac Event Management were all hard at work at AIME in Melbourne pushing the business tourism aspects of the city and region as part of the largest group of Townsville co-exhibitors ever to attend AIME, representing the booming destination.
