A hotel bookings website in Austria is reported to be offering discounts to travellers who are willing to make reservations despite bad weather forecasts.
According to the online news provider Ananova, the Weather Bonus website is offering discounts of up to 60 per cent on hotel bookings when meteorologists are predicting inclement conditions.
The website quotes one hotel director as saying that he is “thrilled” by the initiative.
Wolfgang Krainer, of the Arabella Sheraton Hotel in Fuschl, near Salzburg, reportedly said: “People need that extra incentive when the weather is bad. And then there’s the gambling element. Some people book at the bad weather price and hope that the weather will turn out better than expected.”
