Which is the World’s Most Reputable Country?
Canada has the best reputation of all the countries in the world.
Sweden and Switzerland come in second and third, says Country RepTrak, a global study of more than 27,000 consumers in the G8 countries.
It’s Canada’s third consecutive year at the top of the list of the World’s Most Reputable Countries.
Reputation Institute executive partner Nicolas Trad said that "perceptions held by stakeholders determine their decision to visit or live and work in a country, buy national debt, or purchase its products or services. A good reputation will always mean greater national income for a country."
Canada, meanwhile, is "capitalizing on our positive reputation to open new doors and create new opportunities for Canada, such as the impact of the business events travel sector on our economy," said Canadian Tourism Commission president and CEO Michele McKenzie.
Tourism generated revenue of $81.9 billion for Canada in 2012.
The United States moved up to number 22 in the survey, continuing a spate of improved scores since President Obama took office.
Farther abroad, in the five BRIC countries with growing economies, only Brazil significantly improved its reputation. Surprisingly, China and India lost the most in reputation percentage-wise from last year. South Africa’s reputation score dropped slightly, and Russia maintained the same score as last year.
With the exception of Argentina, which experienced a slight reputation drop due to negative media coverage in 2012, the Latin American countries improved their reputation scores.
While Italy and Greece saw the biggest drops in reputation in 2012, that trend reversed in 2013. Spain fell two spots, though, and is now ranked below Italy.
More than 27,000 consumers provided their external perceptions of the 50 nations and more than 11,000 consumers provided perceptions of their home country.
