Whisky-themed Edinburgh attraction set to be approved
A multi-million pound whisky-themed tourist experience in Edinburgh has been recommended for approval by council planning officers.
The attraction will include a new state-of-the-art Johnnie Walker immersive visitor experience in the city’s old House of Fraser in Princes Street.
Drinks giant Diageo promises it will ‘bring to life’ the story of the popular Scotch whisky.
The company also plans to upgrade its existing network of 12 distillery visitor centres to create a ‘new generation’ of Scotch attractions where people can meet the craftsmen and craftswomen.
Whisky from Diageo’s distilleries across Scotland contribute to Johnnie Walker, but four distilleries – Glenkinchie, Cardhu, Caol Ila and Clynelish – will be linked directly to the Johnnie Walker venue in Edinburgh and will represent the ‘four corners of Scotland’.
Diageo plans to spend a total of £150 million on the projects.
If approved, the visitor experience could be open as soon as Christmas 2020.
