White powder halts Jetstar
Passengers had to sit on a plane for nearly three hours at Cairns airport last night after a white powder was found onboard the aircraft.
The Jetstar plane on its way from Melbourne had touched down at Cairns Airport when the substance was found in a baggage locker.
An emergency procedure was put in place when the plane landed about 7.40pm (AEST).
The plane was isolated on the runway as emergency services, including fire crews wearing chemical suits, went aboard the aircraft to investigate.
Fire Station Officer Ian Fulton says Hazmat crews attended and isolated the plane before a scientist was brought in to test the white powder.
“He did an analysis on that substance and deemed that it was a non-toxic substance and then all persons were briefed and the plane was allowed to berth the domestic terminal,” he said.
