Wilderness Scotland experiences bookings surge in 2009

Scotland’s leading adventure operator, Wilderness Scotland, has seen a 37 per cent rise in bookings for its breaks this year. The company believes the increase, in the face of the recession, is due to visitors looking to save costs by travelling closer to home and a greater desire by UK travellers to take green holidays.

The country’s world-class wilderness areas enable Wilderness Scotland to offer visitors experiences encompassing mountain biking, sea kayaking, open canoeing, wilderness walking, sailing, photography and wildlife adventures without the expense, in time, money and the potential carbon footprint, of long-distance travel. And these can all be enjoyed through the award-winning company’s sustainable tourism ethos which involves supporting conservation projects and local communities.

Stevie Christie, Wilderness Scotland Director, comments: “More people are listening to their green consciences and the rise in demand for our environmentally-sound holidays reflects this. The opportunities to take eco-friendly breaks in Scotland have increased significantly since we established the company in 2000, with more like-minded partners such as hotels and lodges appearing, and Visit Scotland’s aim to make the country Europe’s number one sustainable tourism destination is set to provide a further boost in a growing market.”
