Wizz Air announces a new base at Rome Fiumicino
Budget carrier Wizz Air has unveiled its newest base at Rome Fiumicino Airport.
It becomes the airline’s 43rd base and will base four Airbus A321neo aircraft to service 32 routes to 19 countries.
It includes flights to London Luton and Liverpool John Lennon airports from Rome.
Wizz Air already operates 25 routes from Rome Fiumicino and Rome Ciampino airports.
The carrier has opened four bases in Italy in the past year – Milan Malpensa, Catania, Palermo and Bari.
The new Rome base is expected to create over 100 new direct jobs.
As well as the London Luton and Liverpool flights, Wizz Air will connect Rome Fiumicino with Eindhoven, Sofia, Tel Aviv, Casablanca, Santorini, Corfu, Tenerife, Sharm el Sheikh and more.
George Michalopoulos, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air Group said: "I am delighted to announce our newest base. In the last 12 months we have allocated 17 based aircraft to Italy, and will continue to invest in the market, doubling our presence in the next three years"
To coincide with the new base, Wizz Air launched its domestic Italian Wizz Air Discount Club.
The annual membership provides travellers with a guaranteed discount from the ticket price on all Italian domestic Wizz Air flights priced above €14.99.
