Wizz Air extends cabin bag charges across its network
Wizz Air is introducing cabin bag charges across all its flights following the success of its month-long trial.
The Hungarian low cost airline claims the new policy has reduced overcrowding in the aircraft cabins.
From 4 October, passengers can travel with a free small cabin bag measuring up to 42x32x25cm (laptop or handbag size) or pay £9 to bring a large cabin bag – up to 56x45x25cm.
Goods purchased after security will still be allowed on board for free.
The new policy will apply to flights leaving after 24 October and the airline claims all airfares will be discounted by £4 to share the savings made by the scheme.
Wizz Air claims to be the first airline to introduce such a scheme in Europe.
Some changes have been made since the trial which ran during August on the Katowice to London Luton route, see previous story.
- The 10kg weight limit for cabin bags (small or large) will be eliminated until further notice. Passengers can now bring onboard a (small or large) cabin bag of any weight as long as they can lift the bag into the cabin unassisted
- The size of the large cabin bag has been increased to meet IATA standard measurements (56x45x25cm)
