Wizz Air to launch seven routes from Doncaster Sheffield
Wizz Air has created a new UK base at Doncaster Sheffield Airport and will launch seven new routes.
The airline will allocate one Airbus A320 to the Yorkshire airport, and will begin flying to the Spanish cities of Alicante and Malaga, Larnaca in Cyprus, Faro in Portugal, Lublin in Poland, Kosice in Slovakia and Suceava in Romania.
It already operates 10 routes from Doncaster Sheffield.
The expansion brings its total UK operation to 11 aircraft and 107 routes. Wizz said it has almost 1.8 million seats on sales for the remainder of 2020.
The move will create 36 direct jobs.
The new routes, which all start in late October, will see three-times weekly services to Alicante and Lublin, and twice-weekly flights to Malaga, Larnaca, Kosice, Faro and Suceava.
Wizz Air UK Managing Director Owain Jones described the base as a ‘major milestone’.
"[It is] testament to both our long term commitment to serving the UK market and the strength of the Wizz Air business model, as we continue to expand our footprint during this challenging time for the industry," he said.
