Woman dies after attempting to jump overboard
A cruise ship passenger has died after trying to jump overboard from a Princess Cruises ship.
During the ship’s journey back to Florida, the woman jumped off the ship but slammed into a lower deck and died.
The incident took place last weekend during the Sky Princess’ last day of a Caribbean cruise.
The had sailed to Princess Cays in the Bahamas, Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel.
The unnamed guest was described as a 48-year-old American woman.
“The guest fell to a lower deck, where she was promptly rescued. Personnel immediately provided emergency medical care, but despite their best efforts, she could not be revived,” the cruise line said.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the guest’s family and friends.”
The cruise line said the woman had deliberately attempted to jump overboard.
The accident is being investigated by local and federal authorities.
