A woman who admitted assaulting three British Airways cabin crew faces up to two years in prison when she returns to court for sentencing later this month.

Forty-seven-year-old Emma Langford kicked, punched and verbally assaulted the crew on a flight to Cape Town.

She then tipped a tray of plates and some glasses on the floor, which smashed, cutting another crew member.

She was restrained by an off-duty police officer on the flight and arrested when the aircraft landed in Cape Town, in December 2018.

Langford, from Hampshire, admitted  three assaults, criminal damage, being drunk on an aircraft, and behaving in a threatening manner towards cabin crew, when she appeared at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on December 4 2019.

The seriousness of the incident meant the case was transferred to crown court.

Isleworth Crown Court heard on Friday that Langford was flying to South Africa to attend rehab when the air rage occured. She has two convictions for drink-driving.

The case was adjourned for the court to seek evidence she is seeking treatment for her alcoholism and she must wear an alcohol detection bracelet .

The court was told that Langford, as part of matters relating to the custody of her two young sons, is now accompanied by a woman who observes her 24 hours a day to ensure she does not drink alcohol.

She is also to wear a SCRAM bracelet, a device that is able to detect alcohol in the system every half an hour.

She was given unconditional bail and her case has been adjourned to January 31.

Guy Wyatt, defending, acknowledged a custodial sentence was highly likely.
