Women in tourism: A chance to SHINE
Nominations will close this week for an awards scheme that seeks to recognise the leading women in the travel, tourism and hospitality sectors.
Women represent 60% of the workforce in these sectors, according to the organisers of the awards, mentoring agency SHINE, and every woman in travel, tourism and hospitality is eligible for at least one of the award categories.
The categories are: Business Owner of the Year Award; Business Woman of the Year; Young Achiever of the Year; Public Sector Woman of the Year; Business Expert of the Year; and The ‘SHINE’ Woman of the Year Award.
Nominations can be made online at www.shineawards.com, but the deadline is fast approaching. A shortlist is then drawn up in each category and the relevant nominees are asked to attend a short interview with a panel of judges.
On the panel are various leading tourism figures including ABTA chief executive Ian Reynolds, Teresa Brain of AWTE, Bob Cotton, chief executive of the British Hospitality Association and Karen Gill, founder of Everywoman.
The deadline for nominations is midday on Christmas Eve, and the awards ceremony will take place on February 10 in London.
The event is being sponsored by KPMG and was organised under the patronage of the Tourism Society in a bid to encourage women to further their careers in the industry.
