Women in travel recognised with awards
Two new awards have been presented by the Association of Women Travel Executives.
They recognise the achievement of women in the travel industry.
Karen Ramirez, AWTE vice-chairman and managing director of Lingo Online Marketing Services, was presented with the Business Impact Award to recognise newcomers to the industry who have impacted their business.
Bella Rangel-Callan was awarded for her contribution to both the AWTE and the industry.
She received the AWTE Joan Richardson Award for her support for the organisation, cancer charities, development of women in business, and contribution to the travel industry.
The awards were born from a will left to AWTE by co-founder Joan Richardson who requested the association to create a legacy for women in travel.
Teletext Holidays and Gail Kenny Executive Search judged the nominations, and both women were presented with silver pendants to accompany their trophies.
AWTE chairman Tricia Handley said: “Recognition is the single most important element for motivation, for anyone in any role, and overrides the desire for salary increases.
“It just feels right to reward our people deserving of recognition. The event lifted the spirits of many guests in the room at a time when our economic climate is affecting so many areas of our industry.”
