Women’s body went unnoticed in hotel room for days
The body of a woman lay undiscovered inside an Austin hotel for three days even as housekeeping staff cleaned the room.
In fact, even when San Juana Macias, 40, was reported missing, police searched the room and still didn’t find the body.
It wasn’t until boyfriend Jaime Jerome Wingwood, 40, told police to ‘look under the mattress’ that she was found.
Wingwood admitted killing her and has been charged with aggravated assault in a death and tampering with a corpse.
Macias’ body was discovered hidden inside the bed frame in a room at the Roadway Inn and Suites.
"The bed frame was constructed in a manner that created a box on the top of which the mattress sat on. Under the mattress was a void created by the frame of the box and is where the victim was located," a police affidavit said.
Police said the room was cleaned by hotel staff after Wingwood left and then police searched the room without success.
At this point Wingwood was on the run after texting his sister admitting to the killing.
He was involved in a police chase over the state line into Louisiana and arrested.
Police believe the murder weapon was the hotel room iron which was found with blood stains in Wingwood’s vehicle.
