World’s best paddlers ready to make waves
Lima is gearing up to host some of the world’s top surf athletes for the annual World Standup Paddle (SUP) and Paddleboard Championship, taking place in the Peruvian capital’s surfing mecca, Miraflores.
Following the inaugural event in January 2012, Peru will host 150 of the world’s greatest watermen and women, travelling from 25 countries to compete between February 24 and March 2.
The Australian 2013 SUP team consists of 10-times world champ Jamie Mitchell, Australian technical course champion Kelly Margetts, and Aussie women’s champ Angie Jackson.
Jordan Mercer, who last year won four gold medals at just 19 years old, is also back for 2013.
Miraflores is one of the world’s largest surfing cities, with more than 1,400 miles of coastline, and a low density of surfers, which attracts professional and passionate surfers all year round.
