Would you book a car from a car rental company called Vroom Vroom Vroom?

Monday, 21 Jul, 2008 0

The Mole took the opportunity recently of not just booking a car with Vroom, Vroom, Vroom and it was very easy, but also to chat with Australian based Director of Vroom, Vroom, Vroom and kicked off the chat by asking him asked him what possessed them to call the company Vroom, Vroom, Vroom and this is what he said……

“The name Vroom, Vroom, Vroom is key to our brand, it says it all….and yes, lots of people thought we were crazy choosing it, but, hey you and I are sitting here today talking about it, so if we had called it something boring, the chances are we would not be having this discussion and I would not have the opportunity of telling you all about how amazing we are at Vroom, Vroom, Vroom!”

“We also believe in what we call “The Laugh Factor”, because we always answer the phone with the full Vroom, Vroom, Vroom, sometimes with sound effects and that always gets a laugh and gets people talking.”

I asked David what makes Vroom, Vroom, Vroom different to other car rental companies or brokers and why should car rental clients or even travel agents call Vroom, Vroom, Vroom and not oneof the other companies or say Hertz, Budget, or Avis etc, direct.

He said, “The key factors why clients should use Vroom, Vroom, Vroom is that firstly, we can save them not only a car load, but a truck load of time because we offer a five in one product of all the major suppliers and clients are always guaranteed the cheapest price of all the suppliers.”

“And this is all in one web site, making prices and features easy to compare, without having to access several sites separately, then comparing them which is hard, and we have the very best prices.”

“We offer cars from Thrifty, Avis, Hertz, Budget, Europcar in Australia and internationally we have National, Enterprise, Dollar, Alamo, Thrifty, Avis, Hertz, Budget and Avis and on top of all that in Europe Sixt.

“We also find that compared to our competitors, we have a really great team that are fun to deal with on the phone and we also pride ourselves on very short queues, because well work together to make sure the queues are kept to the minimum.”  “We are also a fun and energetic company ……….oh and of course there are no booking fees.”

“One major feature we have secured in most locations is no one way fees, with some of our suppliers  â€“  it does not happen everywhere but we do our best to make sure that clients do not pay one way fees – just check with us.”  “Often this can save you hundred of dollars.”

“Another key factor of booking a rental car with Vroom, Vroom, Vroom is that we do not take client’s credit card details up front and Aussies love that, because they are not giving out any sensitive information, with the first time the client has to pay anything being when they pick up the car.”

“We believe that this is all down to the relationships and deals that we have negotiated with suppliers and we believe that this is major positive for Vroom, Vroom, Vroom.”

“Another very big bonus is that we do not hit clients with those crazy cancellation fees, we simply do not have any and we believe all these set us apart.”

“Agents and clients should also take into account that some of our competitors deal with smaller off airport car rental companies that simply do not provide the quality of service or cars that we do, – we guarantee that we only deal with very well known brands  with new or very new, good quality new cars, in on airport locations, great and very convenient pick up and drop off areas.”

“Our cars are available in Aus, NZ, UK, USA, Canada, Fiji and S Africa, with about 50% of Europe covered including Portugal, Spain, France and Italy and the reason that we are not everywhere is that that we do not want to push our staff and resources too far so that we get distracted and do not offer as good service as we want to and have become recognised for.”

“We are currently positioning ourselves as a car rental company out of Australia and we have known for about a year that we are the single biggest supplier of car rental bookings in Australia to all the leading suppliers – the major car rental companies will tell you that we do more bookings than anyone else – we are the leaders and are doing very, very well!”

“We did about $40m of sales for suppliers across the world last year with the majority of our sales being in Australia at 70% Australia and a little bit of NZ.”

“We also do a lot of inbound into Aus and of our Aus business, about 20% would be inbound and they like the trusted brand features and the fun side of our business.”

“While we believe that the US is going to continue to pick up for us, from here our main focus is to continue our growth in Australia with the corporate side still a difficult one for us with our system and we would have to implement a different system and grow the team so that is a little way off.”

“We are also trying to get into the Concierge side of things.”

“The big one is for us to grow the USA market and my brother Richard is now based in Las Vegas to do that, driving the USA business.”

“We also have Yolande on board in Brisbane to drive business development and she is producing a monthly newsletter and we want to get customers more involved in Vroom, Vroom, Vroom and we have a random free rental car rental promotion once a month and that also helps separate us from the pack.”

“We don’t sell through TA’s specifically and we don’t provide commission, but we welcome bookings from travel agents and if they want to and charge their client a fee for making the booking , a low risk, time saving process, then that’s fine with us.”

“We are working very hard to do what we do even better, to build on our current position and grow even more!”

A TravelMole special interview with David Eastes of Vroom, Vroom, Vroom

Next week the Mole will be chatting with Michael Hay and Chris Hammill, well known gurus of the car rental world in Australia, having recently taken over Driveaway’s operations in Australia along with operating World Cars – watch this space!
