Yosemite issues assurance amid NPS layoffs
Yosemite National Park has issued a message to assure visitors it remains open as normal amid wide-ranging cuts to the federal workforce.
The Trump admin has cut more than 1,000 National Park positions but Yosemite says it isn’t affected and its business as usual.
“Across the US, National Park and Federal workers have faced dismissals. Our hearts go out to those affected by job loss and the challenges it brings,” it said
“Yosemite National Park is not closed, nor do we expect services to be cut or limited.”
It says the layoffs across the country haven’t included any law enforcement rangers or safety services staff positions.
The National Park Service has this week restarted hiring 5,000 seasonal workers for summer.
Lodging, restaurants, and retail stores inside the National Park are not impacted.
“The lodging industry funds our tourism bureau staff, so these Federal budget cuts do not directly impact us.”
Additionally, the Yosemite National Park advance reservation system is unlikely to be implemented this summer.
