A runner-up in the BBC show The Apprentice has joined Travel Counsellors in a new role as global sales director.

Jim Eastwood came close to winning the 2011 reality competition and was referred to as ‘the world’s greatest salesman’ by host Lord Alan Sugar.

He joins from Groupon, where he held a number of key roles, most recently vice president of sales for UK and Ireland.

In his new job, Eastwood will be responsible for driving Travel Counsellors’ leisure and corporate sales internationally, working across all areas of the company including marketing, business development and recruitment to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.

He will also be working closely with the company’s Travel Counsellor franchisees to continue to improve the support it offers globally.

Travel Counsellors chief executive Steve Byrne said: "Jim shares the ethos and values of the company, putting people and customers at the heart of everything."

Eastwood said: "What attracted me to Travel Counsellors is its commitment to customer service, and the personal relationships that Travel Counsellors develop with their client base.

"The business has demonstrated outstanding levels of growth in recent years, and I’m hoping to be a key component in continuing to drive this in the coming months."
