Zagreb: Big exhibitions
With the organisation of large-scale cultural events and the staging of numerous concerts and theatre, film and folklore events and large exhibitions Zagreb has established itself on the tourist map as an appealing culture destination.
The museum will in November draw public attention with the large “Artistic and Cultural Heritage of the Dominican Order in Croatia” exhibition depicting the rich Croatian cultural heritage created at the encouragement of the Dominicans, and their influence and activity in European culture. The first Dominican monastery in Croatia was opened in Dubrovnik back in the year 1225.
Along with a very interesting series of exhibitions organised on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Museum of the City of Zagreb, a retrospective exhibition is scheduled for December depicting the rich history of this museum
in Zagreb’s Upper Town. An exhibition entitled “100 Masterpieces of Croatian Art” is opening at the same time at the Art Pavilion (Umjetničkim paviljon) at which the lesser known works of great Croatian painters such as Bukovac, Becić, Račić, Kraljević, Karas, Job and many more will be exhibited.
One of the more attractive is the exhibition of the works of Marc Chagall, a painter of Jewish extraction who earned his fame as a master of cubism. The exhibition opens in mid December at the Klovićevi dvori museum.
The “Scandinavian Design – More Than Myth” exhibition is open up to November 18th at the Museum of Art and Crafts featuring the names of well known artists from the Nordic countries and styles, recognisable around the world. The Zagreb public will also be presented the works of one of the best known German artists,
Gerhard Richter, an exhibition of contemporary Japanese ceramics, French design and the works of countless other world famous artists.
In short, a lavish museum program is planned for the end of 2007 and in 2008 – when an exhibition of the works of the great Rembrandt is planned.
