Zipair puts insects on in-flight menu
Low-cost hybrid carrier Zipair is serving up in-flight meals made with crickets.
It is the first time a Japanese domestic airline has included bug-based food on its in-flight menu.
Dishes, including tomato chili burger and Pescatore seafood pasta, contain cricket powder.
Each dish contains 4.5 grams of edible cricket powder, which is classed as an environmentally friendly ingredient.
The cricket-based dishes are available by reserving in advance on Zipair flights departing Tokyo Narita Airport.
Edible crickets are high in protein and vitamins and minerals, catering partner Gryllus says.
