China Airlines completes first sustainable aviation fuel passenger flight
Taiwan based China Airlines this week launched its first passenger flight powered by sustainable aviation fuel.
It completed the flight from Taipei to Singapore using 10% blended SAF.
It was made from renewable waste and residue materials such as cooking oil.
It reduced carbon emissions by about 8%, said CAL strategic planning GM, James Chung.
CAL has long used sustainable aviation fuel for cargo only flights but this was the first time for a commercial passenger flight.
Chung said there is very limited supply of SAF which remains very expensive.
He called on the government to introduce a workable policy to develop a domestic supply chain of SAF.
